SUSTAINABLE SKINCARE INGREDIENTS & FORMULATIONS

We want your skin to feel happy and healthy. As it connects us directly to nature, we are committed to making sure that our product formulations help your skin to thrive in a happy and healthy environment.

Discover how we are developing sustainable skincare by using ingredients of natural origin and biodegradable raw materials that are sourced responsibly.

Our Naturally Derived & Organic Ingredients

Sourcing ingredients from natural material is an important step away from a fossil-based economy. Whilst we aim to increase the amount of naturally derived skincare ingredients within our product formulas, we carefully evaluate their skincare performance, as well as their environmental impact.

Explore our NIVEA skincare products that contain up to 99 percent naturally derived ingredients.

Biodegradability

When developing our skincare formulas, we focus on biodegradability as one of our priorities. By using biodegradable ingredients, we make sure that the materials we use can return to nature without harming the environment.

Vegan cosmetics

More and more people around the world commit to a vegan lifestyle as animal-derived materials do not reflect their values of living in harmony with animals. At NIVEA, we are happy to offer our consumers a range of vegan skincare products that do not contain animal-derived ingredients.

Our Commitment to Zero Microplastics

Microplastics are a source of both soil and marine pollution around the world. As a leading skincare brand, we took action early on to stop using microplastics in our rinse-off products and eliminated microplastics in all our NIVEA products worldwide since the end of 2021.

Our sustainable palm (kernel) oil

Due to its unique properties, palm (kernel) oil is a commonly used ingredient in skincare formulas. The main issue with palm oil is that often large areas of rainforest are destroyed to make room for oil palm plantations. At NIVEA, we are convinced that palm (kernel) oil must be obtained sustainably to protect rainforests from deforestation.

Skin Safety & TRANSPARENCY

At NIVEA, we strive to develop products that consider skin safety, the environment, and consumers’ high skincare expectations. To be transparent about our formulas and facilitate purchase decisions for sustainable skincare products, NIVEA provides simple yet detailed information on the nearly 600 ingredients we use.
